Give Me My Mind Back

Check your bank account, your likes, the news, your weight, your inbox, new follows, missed calls, shopping cart, age, name, location, swipes.

Then/And/Or:

Check your truth telling, your alcohol consumption, your kindness, your helping others, the sky, the breeze, the children, the community board, the water temperature, your peace of mind, your hamstrings, your gut.

Your attitude and attention are up for grabs. It is huge work to reclaim them from algorithmic hypnosis. Summer weather calls you back to the embrace of nature. Let your neural circuitry be woo’ed by the lakes. Let tactile doing, slicing fruit, wrapping cotton towel around baby, feeling your skin eat light as vitamin D, envelope you.

Be of the earth, even as you skillfully use technology to reach out in to the world. Be conscious. Notice compulsion. Call yourself back to your natural home, the grasses, your human family, the forest.

I’ll happily be one more voice in the sweet chorus reminding you to take your shoes off and allow your nervous system to respond to the dirt.
